I could tell you a story...

I could tell you a story about my crazy day.. about my crazy life... about children who get too many presents and have bad behavior. I could tell you about the things that have happened that make me sad. But not today. I'm going to tell you about hope. About what my 7 year old nephew told me yesterday when I asked him what his favorite present was from Christmas. He told me that his favorite present was Jesus being born. I will tell you another story about 2011 years ago. The same God that shaped the universe, the earth, the waters, the plants, animals, and humans in 6 days, came to live with us. Immanuel, God with us. Not above us, over us, in our hearts, but really here with us for 33 years. Yes, God came to live on earth. Not as a king, not a big strong man. I know, it's hard to believe. That God would live with us. But wait. It gets better. He came as a fetus in a young girls womb. He was in her womb 9 months. Then he was born. Born. Out of her womb. A screaming, pink, helpless newborn. He was nursed. He learned to walk. I believe his mind was like any other newborn's mind, not developed. He grew, learned, became a man, like any other boy. And not like any other boy. Perfect. Blameless. God. Son of God. Holy Father. Holy Son. Holy Spirit. Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas

For today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. - Luke 2:11

What a crazy fun life

Oh the joys of getting three little children up and ready in the morning! It is quite a feeling of accomplishment to get three little people all sleeping in their beds, then up in the morning, all cranky and tired. Then we all have to get dressed and get our chocolate milk and get out the door and all go to different places. Then when I finally get to work in the quiet office, I can stop and be happy that everyone is where they need to be!

More to Love

What will you find at our house these days? Kids! Kids! Kids! Three to be exact. We (meaning my parents and me and Nathan) are keeping my niece (Mya, 5) and nephew (Morgan, 1) for right now. Do we know how long it will be necessary? No, we don't. Do we know what will happen week by week? No, we don't. We are trusting in the Lord to take care of all of us and to watch out for these precious children. We don't want anyone to be mad or hurt by what is going on. We just want the best for the babies.

Speaking of babies, Chesley is right smack in between the age of Mya and Morgan. So he tries to be big like Mya sometimes and little like Morgan. It is helping his potty training. A couple of times a day, they have a potty party and go sit on the potties together. It's funny until I have to wipe all the poop bottoms. Mya and Chesley are inseparable. They are like twins. Morgan is a little angel. Right now he and I are having our alone time before everyone else wakes up. It's nice being one on one with him. It's nice to be with a child who doesn't talk!! And he likes playing with the toy by himself. Chesley has had some issues adjusting and being nice and sharing. But this weekend so far has been better than last weekend.

We are going to church today and to the Thanksgiving dinner. I am bringing a turkey and dressing. I woke up at 5 am to put the turkey in the oven. So I will definitely need a nap later!

Breastfeeding Limits

I saw on msn website banner this morning that "Today in the Park" Moms were discussing breastfeeding limits... how discreet to be, what age is cut-off limit, what is best for child... So I thought I would get a serious discussion. But it was pretty short, obviously written and performed, and pretty funny. People do get upset about these issues. I might have been one of them before I had Boo. I did breastfeed him till about 2 months ago. I finally got him to stop. Mostly, I did feel like it was time to stop, but I do not regret nursing him so long. I had no pain, no engorgment, not even for one minute. He really didn't fight to keep nursing. He was not able to breathe through his nose before he had his tonsils out, so he really could not nurse and breathe at the same time. For about a month, he would ask for it maybe once a week, but then he stopped. Such a sweet time is over, but he is growing up.

Warm sun, time together as a family, a few hang-ups here and there, but overall, it was a great trip.

Florida

We made it to Florida! We are in Perdido Key, a beach town close to Pensacola. It is so pretty here. We got in around 5 pm, ate dinner, and went to the beach for a little while in the twilight. Boo was scared of the water, but I hope he will like it better in the daylight. He did pretty good on the 8 hr drive here. Only one little fit, but not bad for a little boy on a long car ride. Tomorrow we can relax and play on the beach.

Houston

Tonight I am in a hotel in Houston medical center. Papaw is having knee replacement surgery tomorrow at Methodist Hospital. Boo was very good at dinner, but now we are all settled in our room, and he is way too wound up to go to sleep. He is watching cartoons. Thank goodness I thought enough to get a room with a separate bedroom and living area. Mom and Papaw are trying to go to sleep. Papaw has been in a lot of pain with his knee. I know surgery will cause more pain, but we hope it recovers well and that he can have a more active happy life again. He has been miserable. We will be with him all day tomorrow and then most of the day Tuesday and then going home that afternoon. I hope Boo can somewhat behave tomorrow at the hospital. If not, we can walk back to the hotel.

Happy Boy

Chesley has been doing much better since surgery. He has decided he likes to eat. He just can't get enough food. And he actually eats real food! Meat, pasta, fruit, along with junk food, but it's an improvement. Today we are taking Papaw to his dr appt in Houston. He has been having a lot of trouble with his knee. Time to go see Houston Drs.

He can breathe!

Since the tonsil surgery, Boo can breathe through his nose. For the past few months, he could not breathe through his nose at all, ever. He snored really bad and had trouble eating and breathing at the same time. I guess the tonsils were swollen all the way around. He is still having some pain, especially at night. I will probably stay home with him through Tuesday. I really would like him to make it through a day without crying in pain before he goes to daycare. He really wants mommy to hold him when he feels bad.

We went to Walmart yesterday for groceries. He was asking to go bye bye, so I thought we needed to shop, and we could get him a toy. He was so good at the store. We bought one toy that he picked out, and he was happy. We got in the car, and he said, "Mommy, I had fun at Walmart." And later, "I want to go back to Walmart." So funny..

Tyrell Park Pics

I took these pics one morning early, before Boo and Nathan woke up. Just wanted some good practice. The park has beautiful flowers and roses. Going before the sun was brutal really helped.

Surgery

So many things going on and I haven't blogged in forever. Well, I'll just jump in. Chesley had his tonsils removed on Tuesday. He is doing well now. He seems to be acting his normal self today. We had to spend the night in the hospital. His dr thought that would be best. I'm not sure it was really necessary, but if something would have gone wrong, it would be nice to be there. He stayed in the bed and rested for over 24 hours. He woke in the night a lot with some pain, and we got the nurses to bring medicine. Then the dr came at 7 am. He would not let us go home yet since Boo had not eaten the day before. They did not want him to dehydrate. Shorty after, he ate a good bit of cereal and drank some juice, so we went home. Last night he had some pain, but today he seems better.

Work is crazy for me. The past two years at work I have a lot more responsibility and demands on my time. They called me a few times yesterday, and I just could not talk until later in the afternoon. I think they managed to get by without me... barely. Maybe they will appreciate me more...

There is some stress in my family, so please pray for us. My hope is just that everybody can do what they need to do and focus on their children as the most important thing.

I am staying home with Boo again tomorrow and maybe Monday too. I just want to be with him in case he has pain or bleeding. So far so good though.

MckMama's beautiful work!

I am so excited that MckMama's pics came today in the mail! They are so beautiful. It is really more than I ever hoped for. She really captured the fun and love and silliness of our little family. These are some of my favorites!

Keeping little boys inside

It's so hard to make Boo stay inside. But I can tell that he feels better and can breathe better when we stay inside. He just loves to go outside. I'm sure all kids do. And the weather is nice. Yesterday, we went out for a little while. Then we came in, he took a nap, and I got ready to go see some boat races at the local festival. I went to get him ready, and he was burning up! So we got to stay home instead. Watching movies, being lazy. I don't mind being lazy, but I like for Boo to get to do something fun. And we stayed home from church since he is feeling bad. I actually paged the ENT dr, being nervous that he started having fever. The dr was so nice. Calmed me down, told me not to worry unless fever got too high. Dr even called me again this morning to check on Boo. I thought that was very nice.

Spending time with Boo

I love spending extra time with Boo. I don't like the reason for all the extra time... he has been sick, maybe one of the worst sicknesses he has had. Nasty tonsils, strep, bad cough, snot. The works. He was sick all weekend, and by Monday was feeling very bad. We saw the ear, nose, throat doctor, and he was very concerned. Said Boo's throat looked really bad... Not what you want to hear. Gave Boo a shot, antibiotics, and made us come back the next day (yesterday). Yesterday dr said Boo was doing a little better. We go back next week. Dr said that he does not like to remove tonsils until the child is 30 lbs. Boo is 28 lbs. And dr likes child to be close to 3 years old. The main problem is that Boo is allergic to most antibiotics and cannot take the strongest ones. So it takes a long time for him to get better. I hope he will be healed by next week. I have a strong feeling we will be getting tonsils out soon. And we will definitely be seeing the dr a lot. But he is doing better today. He has a hard time breathing at night. We got cough syrup with codeine for the first time and that really helped last night. Plan is to go back to work and school tomorrow.

Easter fun!

A Boy and his Cat

Boo sure does love Manimal. For some reason, the kids all love her. She is very friendly, but when she has had enough torture, she will let them know. And she will scratch or lightly bite. And they would rather mess with her than mess with one of the cats that does not mind torture. I keep hoping that one day either the cat will learn to stay away from the kids or the kids will learn to leave her alone. But kids and cats are stubborn!

Playing with kids

Chesley loves to play with Samantha (Mantha) outside at the park. Drink a glass of wine... play with kids... Last weekend Boo decided to go visit the neighbors. He was in their driveway to get his ball, and he ran up to their door and just let himself in...NICE!! So of course I had to follow him in. They are so nice. I felt so goofy just walking in their house. We are friends with them, and Boo loves playing with their kids. I still felt silly though.

Feeling down

Some things out of my control have got me feeling down and blue today. I know that I have so many things to be thankful for, and I am trying to concentrate on those things, but it's hard sometimes. And two year olds are not good at being nice sometimes. Hopefully spending time with my wonderful family and friends will cheer me up (and cheer Boo up).

Silly Kids

Well we had to wipe the computer clean. I managed to get PSE loaded back up with my actions. So I got to edit these cute pics of the kids. Boo has strep. He has really been feeling bad.

A Sneak Peek!

Check out our silly pic MckMama posted to her blog this morning! How funny is that! I had no idea Boo was doing his silly... whatever he is doing!

Photos with Jennifer

Jennifer aka MckMama took our pictures today! She was so very sweet and very easy to get along with. Our picture session felt so natural. At first Boo was a little cranky, but he warmed up quickly and gave us plenty of smiles. We got lots of pictures of us just hanging out being silly, hugging and kissing. We took some of me and Nathan by ourselves hugging and kissing and acting like we like each other. It was really funny. When we got to the area where she was taking pictures of the people before us, I saw my friend Charmaine! With her family, to take pics of her daughter! How funny is that?? Jennifer saw us chatting away and asked if we already knew each other. Yes, we went to college together and just happened to book these sessions right after each other 90 miles away from where we live. Too funny! The session was at Discovery Green park, which is right in downtown Houston in the middle of high rise buildings. There is a water playground area that we managed to keep Boo away from until after the pics. Then he was so tired when we left that he passed out in the car. Almost too much fun for one little boy in one day. Now we are home to rest and hang out together. It may be a while before I get to show off our pics. I have a feeling they are going to be great. She had lots of sessions in Houston this weekend and probably has more all day tomorrow. But it will be well worth the wait!

Tubes again

Boo got tubes put in his ears today. He is doing well. There were a few rough moments when he came out of recovery and was crying. He was still out of it for a while and was feeling bad. After he woke up from his nap he was hurting, but now he is playing and somewhat happy. He had a bad earache over the weekend. We went to the dr Monday morning and got some meds. Then we had our 3 month visit with the ENT on Tuesday, and the dr said that he needed to replace the tubes in Boo's ears. The tubes are not meant to last forever, and we knew that. So, now it's all done.

We are spending the night in Houston tomorrow night. Nathan is going to some car event with his friend, and me and Boo will find something to do. The hotel has an indoor pool, so we might just hang out there in the evening. Then Saturday we are having a photo session with MckMama! I am very excited. Some of you may know who she is and some may not. www.mycharmingkids.net is her blog. She really inspired me to take more pictures and to learn how to use my camera correctly. So I am excited to meet her and to get some fun pics of our little family. I will also take my camera to get some pics of Boo myself. I haven't been taking a lot of pics lately for some reason. It is hard to chase Boo around and take pics.

My way!

Sounds like I might be getting that house I like in Port Neches. Nathan just came out today and said we could make an offer on it. I haven't bugged him about it in a few days. I guess that's the best way to get my way.. to not be annoying. But we will have a contingency on the offer that we have to sale our house first.

ABCs

Boo has gotten much better at saying his ABCs. He still skips a few. Last night he just couldn't fall asleep with so many exciting things going on in his world. He doesn't know how to turn off his mind.

ABCD LMNOP Q R S T gibber gibber now i said my ABCCCCS next time gibber jabber me.

Yay!! Lots of clapping...

What we've been doing

We are still trying to sell our house, having some more interest now that the weather is nice. It's nice hot spring weather around here. We have been looking at houses, and we found one in Port Neches that we really like. Nathan can't quite decide if we want to make an offer on it yet. It's at the upper end of what we want to spend, but it will be closer to work, and I really like it!

We have been so busy this weekend. Today we will try to relax after church and stay home. Friday I saw Mamma Mia at the Lutcher in Orange. It was so hilarious! I went with MIL and SIL for MIL birthday. We had a good time. Boo went to a Bounce Zone birthday party with Nathan. Then yesterday, we saw Sesame St Live. Boo did really well. The show was a little silly, but he enjoyed it. Then we went to the bowling alley for a birthday party. Boo loved bowling! He was carrying around 7-8 lb balls like it was nothing. He started getting cranky and whiney after a little while. And he couldn't understand why he couldn't bowl the whole time. I guess it's hard to learn to wait for your turn. And I got to see an old friend that I haven't seen in forever! What a day! Boo passed out as soon as we got home. Now he is sitting in his high chair playing with play dough. We are about to get ready for church.

Work has been so busy for me lately, which is good. This coming week I have a workshop type meeting (PHA process hazard analysis for my project for the engineers out there). I really hope I did a decent job designing this project and the team doesn't change things up too much! And I'll be out of my office all week, so when the meeting is over, I will really need to catch up. I like it though. My days at work go by really fast!

So fun!

Yesterday we all met at the park in Nederland after work. Yes, I worked on a Friday. I know, hard to believe. The park has a big pond and ducks and playgrounds and slides. And dirt. All those fancy playgrounds, and Boo's favorite thing was the dirt of course.

Silly Boy

I guess it's normal at two years old to resist taking a nap. But when you have so much fun that you pass out in your highchair, Mommy thinks it's really funny. And I am home alone so there is no one to share in the funniness.

We watched "Nanny McPhee Returns" last night. It was such a good movie! I really liked the first one. The magic, the silliness, the crazy kids, crazy mom. So cute.

Tomorrow we are going to the church Valentines Day Dinner. They are having some fun activities for the kids too, so Boo will enjoy it too.

Saddest Story

This week a young family in our church lost their 8 month old daughter. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I heard that she had a seizure and went to the hospital, and they couldn't save her. My heart is broken for this family. I can't imagine how a parent could carry on after such a loss. They have older children that they have to care for. There are no words to express this sadness. Please pray.

What to do...

It's Sunday, and I have been planning on going back to work tomorrow. But I'm a little nervous about getting back into the swing of things. I am feeling ok, but if I move around too much, walk too much, or ride in the car too long, my tummy hurts. It's not horrible, but I don't want something to come undone or too have too much pain. And going back to work means long drives and a long time to sit in a chair. At home I am doing light housework and moving around, but if I get tired I can lay down for a minute. Can't do that at work. But... I don't get sick time, and I used all my vacation at Christmas. Yikes... I may stay home tomorrow and go in Tuesday.

Boo is doing ok potty learning. One day he uses the potty a lot and the next day he does not. This morning he pooped his pants and said "I need to tee tee potty!" Too late... At least he is making the connection. Nathan bought him some Cars movie pull-ups and he loves them. I don't think he is going to want to wear any other diapers. And he gets upset when you take the diaper off and throw it away. Silly boy.

Getting back to normal

I am feeling much better and getting strength back and getting back to normal. I feel yucky when I first wake up for a little while and then feel better after I move around. I am glad I kept Boo home with me even though there were a few rough moments here and there. I am visiting some family today and taking Boo to the allergy and asthma dr later, so I will probably be tired, but I will make it.

We have had a couple of showings of the house. None were too serious, but it's good to have interest.

ABCs and 123s

Chesley can count to ten!! Well... sort of. He hears counting a lot and really tries. Last night he pretty much got it! We all clapped and laughed and had a good time with it. Then we sang our ABCs and he chimes in "A...E...G...LMNOP...TU..W..YAY!!!"

On a gross note.. pottytraining is so gross. The potty we have downstairs is horrible. Everytime he pees, it goes all over the floor. Then I didn't get a diaper on quick enough and he pooped on the floor in the kitchen!! Yuck!!

I am feeling better today, but still hurting. I really wanted to keep him home with me. I know it's probably not the smartest idea, but I can't help it. I'm trying not to take pain meds and feeling ok. He is calmed down now and watching Elmo. He has been sleeping all night!! Finally!! So that is very good.

Sunday, January 23, 2011

I'm home

Surgery is not fun. I was feeling a lot of pain after surgery, so the doctor admitted me to the hospital for the night. With some good medicine, I was feeling better and resting. Then later, I could not pee! They used a cathetar. Then later still, they had to cathetar again, and again... 3 pm the next day, I finally peed. They were not going to let me go home till I could pee. I was also throwing up a lot after surgery from the meds. I got home at 5 pm yesterday and slept well. I was so happy to see my little Boo and to sleep in my own bed. I will try to rest today and let Nathan take care of Boo. Nathan's parents and my mom kept Boo yesterday and last night. So we are very grateful to have help so I can rest and get better.

Surgery

I am having surgery tomorrow to remove my gallbladder, not anything major, but still surgery. A little scary. I have been having off and on upper abdonimal pain. I've had all kinds of tests done and finally we got an answer on what was the problem. I'm trying not to worry too much about how long I'll have to stay home and how long I will feel bad. I'm hoping that it will be a quick recovery.

Playing with toys

Boo really enjoys playing with his toys and playing with Daddy! Nathan has been working a lot lately, and hopefully he will be home all weekend. Boo definitely misses him and is happy when he does get to spend time with Daddy. Last night, Boo was almost asleep and just couldn't turn off his thoughts and was saying

"Play with Daddy. Play cars, play choo choos, play Thomas, play airplane, play dump truck, color, ..."

And he was so excited to play with Daddy today. Nathan told me Boo was listing off his toys with him too.

Happy Birthday Lil Boy!

I can't believe my baby is two years old today! It is a nice rainy cold day. Nathan is at work. We are being lazy and hanging out at home till it's time for the party. We are going to Bounce Zone where they have big bouncers and slides. We will have Elmo birthday cake and lots of fun.

Yesterday we went to Kinsley's birthday party, also at Bounce Zone. Boo loved it! He got really cranky since he skipped his nap. Let's hope he takes a nap today since we are supposed to go to Corben's birthday party at Chucky Cheeze's right after Boo's party! Yesterday he was zombied out after Bounce Zone. It should be a fun magical day for a little boy.

A busy week

This week at work was so busy! And Nathan has been working late... And I don't think I mentioned it, but Chesley broke my beloved prized Nook ereader a few weeks ago. I bought another one, and it was acting up, so after two trips to Barnes & Noble, I exchanged it. Fun times. And I bought some new Brighton charms for my bracelet that I've had for a while. I just re-discovered it recently! It makes me happy to look at my pretty sparkly shiny things! And I bought Nathan a new bible for his birthday. It is really nice with a leather cover, not too big, but the print is not too tiny.

A Great Surprise

Last night, my friends and family gave me a great semi-surprise birthday party! What is a semi-surprise party you ask? Well, I knew we were going to mom's for dinner with family, but I did not know that a few of my friends and Nathan's family would all be there. My lovely bestest friend Tabatha was there! We had great food and a great time. It was also a celebration of Mamaw Celeste's 79th birthday. What a great night!

Happy New Year!

Today finds me beginning a new year and being a year older! I can't believe I am 30 years old! Of course after chasing Chesley around, I have felt old for a while, but today is proof. Just kidding. I feel so much happier being 30 than when I turned 20. I know who I am. I am comfortable in my own skin. I have everything I could ever want, a family, a good job, a nice house, car, the whole package. Of course everyday is not perfect, but I am blessed! So come on 30, I'm ready!
